Book Spotlight: A Genie’s Fortune (Reluctant Mates) by Jane Wakely
I’m really excited to be back here on Lori’s blog, talking about my latest release, A GENIE’S FORTUNE! A GENIE’S FORTUNE is book two in the Reluctant Mates series (Paranormal/Fantasy Romance), but each book is a stand-alone story with a new couple!
I’m thrilled to have you meet Ben and Dani! Here’s the blurb to their story:
Danica Weston enjoys her quiet, single life, content with being alone and making her own decisions. The horrors of the past have made her immune toward men, and her dreams of a family and a fairy tale ending disappeared a long time ago. When a man appears in her home, sent to protect her by the Council, she makes it clear they will never be anything more than friends.
Benjamin Darcy can’t believe the Council is forcing him to mate again. After the last episode, he’s through with mates, determined to live out the rest of his life alone. When he’s thrust into the petite human’s home, the sight of her melts his heart and all his plans go out the window. He offers her friendship and vows to protect her at all costs.
In order to sustain the numbers of all mythical beings, the Council, the governing body of the Mythical Realm, intervened and found prosperous matches for several of their subjects. Rather than create an act of treason punishable by death, Ben accepts his fate and embarks on his new life. Ben is unlike any man Dani has ever known, but fear from the past keeps her from taking a chance at happiness until she can no longer resist. When a mistake forces them apart, Dani must decide whether to live in the past, or embrace her strength and start living the life she always wanted.
Here’s an excerpt from A GENIE’S FORTUNE:
“You can’t be serious. A human?” Benjamin Darcy swept his gaze across the dais and shook his head. Every Council member met his questioning gaze with a look that let him know they weren’t joking. They wanted him to mate with a human.
“How am I going to pull that off? They aren’t even supposed to know about us.” Ben couldn’t believe their demands. Not only did he have to mate, but he had to mate with a human. He’d never told a human about his power. Part of the survival of the Mythical Realm meant keeping their secrets hidden from humans.
“She is different than the others. We are confident she will keep any information she learns about us to herself,” said Lord Nicholas, the High Council shifter.
The Council consisted of eight members, and they served as the guardians, or governing body, of the Mythical Realm. They enforced laws, guarded the history and provided protection and guidance to all of their subjects. One representative from each species sat on the Council, and the two groups with the highest population made up the High Council. As far back as he could remember, those chairs had always been held by a shifter and a vampire. In recent years, nothing had changed.
All of the Council members sat in high-backed thrones across the dais, but the High Council’s chairs were at least a foot higher than the others. The distinction was mostly for show because the group operated as one unit and each member carried the same weight as the others. If a stalemate decision had to be made, then one of the High Council members would step in and make the deciding vote, but it rarely happened. The eight worked well together and usually came to an agreement fairly quickly.
